June Mecham
We are sad to report the passing of June Mecham, Assistant Professor of History at the University of Nebraska. She passed away March 1, after a long illness, at the age of 35.
Her research interests included women’s history and gender history, especially female spirituality and monasticism, as well as the interaction between material culture and devotional practices, space and performance in late medieval Germany. Dr. Mecham served as an assistant editor for the website Monastic Matrix, a scholarly resource for the study of women’s religious communities from 400-1600.
Among her works is:
Reading between the lines: compilation, variation, and the recovery of an authentic female voice in the Dornenkron prayer books from Wienhausen, in The Journal of Medieval History
Breaking Old Habits: Recent Research on Women, Spirituality, and the Arts in the Middle Ages, in History Compass
